They work under supervision and may exercise limited discretion and judgment in day-to-day operations.

Overview
This program is designed for new or early-career entrants to the hospitality industry. Learners are typically working in entry-level or junior hospitality roles and are undertaking structured workplace-based training to build competence across a range of operational duties.
The qualification is suitable for students working across various sectors, including cafes, restaurants, hotels, clubs, accommodation venues, pubs, and resorts. Students learn through a combination of workplace-based training and formal instruction, with progress monitored against an approved training plan.
Learning content
Learners will explore a wide range of hospitality topics, including delivering quality customer service and responding to customer feedback, practicing safe and hygienic food handling, and preparing and serving food, beverages, and espresso coffee. The course also covers key skills in bar, reception, and housekeeping operations, along with effective workplace communication, teamwork in diverse environments, and a solid understanding of health, safety, and sustainability practices in the hospitality industry.

Eligibility
- Students must meet the minimum working age for the relevant role and be able to engage safely in the work environment.
- Students must be recently employed in a suitable hospitality role. Employment must be with an employer in a venue such as a café, restaurant, club, motel, or accommodation service.
- Students must have ongoing access to a real hospitality work environment where practical skills and assessment activities can be completed. This includes access to customers, service facilities, and tasks aligned to the qualification outcomes.

All students will be required to create or obtain their personal USI. Certificates cannot be issued without this code.

Certification requirements differ across states and territories.
SITXFSA005
Food handlers must comply with the requirements contained within the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. In some States and Territories businesses are required to designate a food safety supervisor.
