Certificate III in Individual Support
This nationally recognised qualification prepares individuals to work in aged care and disability support settings, providing person-centred care to people who require assistance due to ageing, disability, or chronic health conditions. Support is delivered in community, home-based, or residential environments under supervision and within the scope of an individualised care plan.

Overview
This program focuses on building a dual skill set across both ageing and disability sectors, enabling workers to adapt their support approaches to suit the individual needs, goals, and circumstances of clients.
To achieve this qualification, students must complete at least 120 hours of supervised work placement in a suitable aged care, disability support, or community care organisation, as specified in the assessment conditions.
This qualification also provides a pathway to higher-level training in community services, allied health assistance, or enrolled nursing.
Learning content
Throughout this course, learners gain the knowledge and hands-on skills to confidently provide personal care, including assistance with showering, dressing, and mobility. The program focuses on supporting individuals to maintain independence, participate in their communities, and make informed choices—upholding the principles of dignity and respect. Students also learn how to provide support for people living with dementia, intellectual or physical disabilities, and other complex care needs.
In addition, learners develop strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and care teams. They explore the legal, ethical, and organisational frameworks that guide care work, and learn to apply essential safety and infection control procedures in everyday practice. These foundations ensure learners are well-prepared for meaningful roles in the care and support sector.
